Augmented Reality Serious Games for Children
AR4Children proposal main objective is to develop advanced Augmented Reality (AR) games to assist learning and skill acquisitions by children. For pre-school and special needs children it will assist them with the acquisition of the basics of mathematics, literacy and science through the games AR4Math, AR4Read and AR4Science.
With the AR4Children system a pupil’s specific domain learning environment is synthesized based on acceptable functionalized scenarios to be derived from functionality using state-of-the art AR technologies (games, gamification, novel pedagogic approaches). These will ensure friendly, engaging, motivating and rewarding learning through ubiquitous connectivity, interoperability, security and integration capability and provide for the anticipated future advances in ICT, AR and educational science to ensure the continuous provision of maximum educational value. AR4Children defines a methodology and specifications for the design and development of a prototype state-of-the-art ICT-based infrastructure and AR-centric tools to empower and educate children of ages 4 through 8 to achieve their highest possible potential. This is done with ICT flexibility and functional capacity to provide for customized, fully equipped virtual teaching and learning environments where student interaction is facilitated, motivation is empowered and achievement is rewarded. This is done in a transparent, secure and safe environment, maintained through continuous monitoring for compliance and feedback for performance optimization.
